Thanksgiving

It is almost Thanksgiving and once again it is time for  famlies to come together to show how thankful they are for one another.  We do this by sitting down around the table not only with family members but also with friends.  These are the moments that help bind us together and enrich our lives. Memories are made here that stay with us for a lifetime and what could be better than that.  It is a time for gratitude and for what else but lots and lots of cooking.

My mother and father are no longer with us but our Thanksgiving table is always a reminder of what a great cook my mother was and what a great pot scrubber my dad was. My Dad could clean up a kitchen full of dirty pots and dishes like nobody's business.

My mother in law passed away this year but Mae's Pecan Pie will grace our table in honor of her and the secret ingredient (now you didn't think I would tell you what it was did you?).  I might tell you later when I am making the pie.

We have been eating the same meal for many years and have yet to grow tired of it.  There is no dieting on Thanksgiving - we are a Paula Dean family with lots and lots of butter - what could make anything taste better than butter and bacon!

This year in attempt to blog our way through a first Thanksgiving we are going to share some recipes and pictures of a Thanksgiving meal at the The Smith house.  The Smith girls can centainly mess up a kitchen from one end to the other but it is worth every dirty dish and plate for that mounded up plate of turkey and dressing.  So wish us luck here we go.
